The Motherhood Project: Kaylie

“I think we get down on ourself a lot and worry we aren’t the best mom because we don’t do all the fun things other moms do. Really just be who you are and love your kids. Teach them and play with them, that is something they will cherish forever.”

Name: Kaylie | Children: 2.5 year-old son

unnamed

Did you enjoy your pregnancy?: Yeah, for the most part. The beginning was hard because I had all day sickness. But a few weeks into the second trimester I felt so much better and then I felt those sweet movements at 16 weeks! It was such an awesome feeling. But the end gets hard again because I was so huge and uncomfortable, but it was worth it! 🙂

Whats your biggest struggle when it comes to being a mom?: Lately it has been a huge challenge since I am pregnant and I have a 2 1/2 year old who is deciding to be a stinker a lot. Haha, I love him but some days I get so tired and he has been fighting his naps which makes him super grumpy and then I get grumpy. So that is way hard, especially when he is doing anything to push my buttons.

Whats your biggest strength when it comes to being a mom?: I know that even though I am not a perfect mom, that I will always try my best and will always do anything to protect my kids. I will always love them even when they are driving me crazy.

What is your parenting style?: I really just try to be the best parent I can, I am not perfect but I am trying to be better to have patience. I really think that patience is a huge thing. I noticed when I lose my temper it doesn’t help the problem at all, but if I have patience and show love and make it a teaching moment it works a lot better. I also pray A LOT so that I can know how to help my son and to show him love.I want him to grow up to be a good hard working man like his daddy one day. 🙂

What is your favorite part of the day with your child?: I love it when we can go play outside. Just going on walks and watching my son learn about the world around him is so fun! I love how excited he gets about the smallest things.

Who is an inspiration to you when it comes to motherhood?: There are so many moms that I look up to but I especially look up to my mom, she is amazing and did an awesome job. I hope to be just like her.

Advice for fellow mothers who need a little boost?: Don’t get down on yourself because you are doing better than you think! I love that message from Elder Holland. I think we get down on ourself a lot and worry we aren’t the best mom because we don’t do all the fun things other moms do. Really just be who you are and love your kids. Teach them and play with them, that is something they will cherish forever. Just be there for them.

Where is your favorite place to shop for yourself? Favorite place to shop for you child?: I love anywhere that has a good deal! I love lots of places, I love Mikarose and lately I love Pink Blush Maternity. They have way cute pregnancy clothes. For my kids, I love going to Kohl’s.

Whats one product for yourself you can’t live without? Favorite product for your child?: I love the Bareminerals make up.I love how light it is and I don’t feel like I am painting my face every day. For my son Eurcine lotion has been awesome when he has his eczema break outs.

How has being a mom changed your life?: Oh man, it has changed me so much. It has changed me for the better. My son makes me want to be a better person every day and makes me want to work hard so that he can have a good life and grow up to be a good person.I want to be a good example to him and my future kids. I want to teach them to be kind to everyone and to be honest. So everyday I have to pray to be better and to show kindness to everyone even to people who may not be the nicest because I want my children to be that kind of a person. It has taught me so much more about love and service because at first they are so helpless and they are depending on me to help them grow and live. I definitely have learned a lot about the love my parents have for me and why they did the things they did, even when I didn’t agree with them. I also have a better understanding of the love our Father in Heaven has for me and for all of us. It has been one of the hardest yet rewarding callings in my life. I am so blessed to be a mama.
