The Motherhood Project: Heather

“It is such a unique and special experience!”

Name: Heather | Child: Yvonne

Did you enjoy your pregnancy?: I did enjoy my pregnancy. It is such a unique and special experience! But I enjoy having my baby out of me more. I don’t think I will ever be one to say “I miss being pregnant”!

How was your delivery experience?: My delivery was really great! I feel blessed to have had a short labor and good delivery. It is such an amazing experience and something that I will never forget.

What’s your biggest struggle when it comes to being a mom?: Worry! I worry so much about Yvonne. There have been times when I have been so anxious about her well-being that I can’t relax or sleep well.

What’s your biggest strength when it comes to being a mom?: I think my biggest struggle in a way is my biggest strength. I have a huge feeling of care and concern for Yvonne. I have to always make sure she is ok!!

What is your parenting style?: I am still figuring this one out! I am up for suggestions. I am open to trying new things to concerns that have come up.

What is your favorite part of the day with your child/children?: I really liked nursing and now that she isn’t nursing anymore, I love giving her her bottle at night and singing (even though I’m a horrible singer!) to her before bed.

Who is an inspiration to you when it comes to motherhood?: My mom!!! She is amazing! She raised 7 of us kids (I’m sure I’ll never get to that number here on earth!). She had her first three babies at home. Her first two babies were born in a tiny house in the middle of Montana. I always ask her how she did it! She says she was just so happy to be taking care of babies and she enjoyed reading. Whenever I feel stuck at home or a little bored – I think of her! She mastered her homemaking skills of sewing and cooking (she could cook bread in a wood stove!). She has always stayed at home for us, which has always been a comfort to me-even now as an adult.

Advice for fellow mothers who need a little boost?: You are doing a good job! There is no right way to be a mom. Everyone struggles even if they don’t look like they do. Be patient with yourself!

Where is your favorite place to shop for yourself? Favorite place to shop for your child/children?: I really don’t go shopping very often ….and I like Carters for Yvonne!

What’s one product for yourself you can’t live without?: Dry shampoo! Because I wash my hair less and less these days. Favorite product for your child/children?: Baby ComfyNose baby aspirator. It is the best for when baby has a runny nose.

How has being a mom changed your life?: It has made me so happy! It has helped me cherish small moments much more. Babies grow so fast so I try to live each day more mindfully and enjoy the moment-even if it is hard because it won’t be like this forever!
