“That first morning hug as you lift them up from their crib is so needed.”
Name: Amy | Child: Eleanor
Did you enjoy your pregnancy?: Yes and no. It was hard for me to see my body change. My face broke out, the chloasma under my eyes was a joke and the stretch marks at the very end got me down. I was throwing up til about 20 weeks always around 11pm. Now that it’s been almost a year since being pregnant, I miss it! I miss going to each appointment with my husband and hearing her heartbeat. I loved her little kicks and hiccups. Growing a baby inside of you is no doubt one of the most magical things and I feel nothing but gratitude being able to experience it.
How was your delivery experience?: I was blown away with how perfect my delivery was. I didn’t know what to expect and just relaxed and let everything fall into place. She came so fast and so easily. That was by far one of the greatest days of my life and I still tear up thinking about it…seriously I’m sitting here crying. It’s hard to put into words but you can read her birth story over on my blog. (here)
What’s your biggest struggle when it comes to being a mom?: Sometimes I feel guilty wishing she would nap longer or play with her toys on her own so I can have down time/get stuff done. Some days it feels like she always needs me and I get so burnt out. It’s hard going from having so much free time to having a baby that constantly needs you. I would say I need to focus more on the moments I have with her because she is growing up and changing so quickly. I already miss her newborn stage when she would lay and cuddle. She is not a fan of snuggling now. She is always on the go.
What’s your biggest strength when it comes to being a mom?: I would have to probably say how chill I’ve been. My husband would probably disagree with me here because I still worry about her a lot but if she wants to put grass in her mouth, I let her try it. If she wants a french fry, I let her have it. She has become very independent which works well for us. She is figuring things out. I don’t want to be that mom that always tells her no. Although when she gets to Thor’s (our dog) dog food I have to intervene. I think it has made her very chill herself and she rarely ever cries.
What is your parenting style?: Very relaxed. I didn’t create a schedule for Eleanor. I let her tell me when she needs something. She knows milk in sign language and tells me when she is hungry. When she gets fussy, I put her down for a nap. I don’t like to force anything. Slowly she has created her own routine with a nap around 11am and sometimes another later on, sometimes not. She tends to be ready for bed around 9 and sleeps for 12 hours almost every night. Yeah, I’m pretty lucky.
What is your favorite part of the day with your child/children?: My favorite is definitely going into her room in the morning and seeing her big smile as she peers up at me from her crib. I’ll still be in bed and I hear her talking and jabbering away with herself. It’s crazy how I can be so tired from being with her all day and then as soon as she goes to bed I miss her like crazy. I think that is why mornings are so special. That first morning hug as you lift them up from their crib is so needed. My husband and I race to her crib when we hear her wake up from naps. We can’t wait to see her face! Another favorite is watching her and Thor play together. Those two are going to be best buds. He is so gentle with her and no one can make her laugh quite like he does. Dogs and babies are a match made in heaven I tell you.
Advice for fellow mothers who need a little boost?: If you are ever feeling inadequate, tired or a little suffocated by your daily routine, take some time for yourself. You need a break too and nothing makes me feel better than to pull back and have a little me time. You deserve it. You will come back feeling refreshed and ready to hug those little babies of yours!
Where is your favorite place to shop for yourself?: I am a total online shopper. My go to is Asos. Free shipping and free returns is the best! I don’t like it? It goes straight back in the mailbox. Favorite place to shop for your child/children? I hate the name of this store but Osh Kosh has the cutest baby clothes by far that I have found. Everywhere else is so hit and miss. I also pick up quite a few of her outfits from Target.
What’s one product for yourself you can’t live without?: Maybelline’s under eye concealer and dark circle eraser. I used to be able to go without makeup no problem but pregnancy gave me the worst dark circles and brown spots under my eyes. This stuff covers it so well and doesn’t break the bank. Favorite product for your child/children?: Eleanor is almost walking but her Joovy Spoon Walker has been amazing! She has been able to follow me around in it and you can also place toys or snacks on the tray. I love how modern it looks since most walkers look so tacky.
How has being a mom changed your life?: It has drastically changed everything about my life. I have to say I am still trying to figure it all out. I went from work, school and free time to always caring for this little being. It is so rewarding and hard all at once. It’s made me more anxious because I don’t want anything bad to ever happen to her but there is also so much more love. Every day is better with her and watching her grow and learn new things is so exciting.
