The Motherhood Project: Valerie

“I honestly have my children to thank for the pure happiness and joy I have in my life right now.”

Name: Val | Children: Eli 2, Ivy 10 Months.

Did you enjoy your pregnancies?: I enjoyed being pregnant for the most part with Eli, but I absolutely hated being pregnant with Ivy. I was miserable!

How was your delivery experience?: Delivery with Eli was pretty close to perfect. Delivery with Ivy was awful!

What is your biggest struggle when it comes to being a mom?: My biggest struggle is being patient 100 percent of the time.

What is your biggest strength when it comes to being a mom?: I get to stay home with my babies so I love spending so much time with them and knowing everything that they want/need.

What is your parenting style?: I have no idea what my parenting style is. I love them to death. I do my best to communicate to and with them and go from there.

What is your favorite time of the day with your children?: I love the mornings!

Who is an inspiration to you when it comes to motherhood?: An inspiration to me would be my sister. She not only loves and cherishes her own children, but she is that way towards all children.

Advice for moms who need a little boost?: If you need a little boost, a couple of things. First, it is not for forever. We all know too well that time goes by too fast. But sometimes it’s very hard when you are in the middle of it. Just tell yourself “This isn’t forever.” And give yourself a break. You are doing the best that you can and that is all your children need.

Where is your favorite place to shop for yourself/for your kids?: What, shopping for myself!? I haven’t done that since having kids. Before kids though, was Nordstrom. Kids, I love Carters, Gymboree and Dillards.

What is an item you can’t live without/your kids can’t live without?: I can’t live without my body pillow. And my kids can’t live without their soft swaddle blankets.

How has being a mother changed you?: Being a mother has changed my life in so many ways for the better! I had no idea how much I could love another person. I had no idea how much joy I would have in having kids. I have become so much stronger in the gospel because of my kids. I honestly have my children to thank for the pure happiness and joy I have in my life right now.
