My Simple, Inexpensive Make Up Routine

Makeup is usually quite an ordeal for me. If I’m going to wear it, I’m going to put quite a bit on, spend lots of time on it and get really picky with how things look. Thats why the current me is so foreign. Lately I’m very, very low maintenance with my makeup and I honestly can’t think of the last time I’ve really felt this way. Whats funniest to me is that when I wear this simple face, I tend to get a lot of compliments on my makeup or questions about what I use. So, for any of you who may have wondered, or who are just curious about what makeup I’m currently using (bonus: most of it is drugstore right now!), then this post is for you.

I start after washing my face and putting on a moisturizer with SPF in it. Then I begin.

I start with a primer almost always. I typically go between my Smashbox Photo Finish Primer or my NYX Photo-Loving Primer.

Then I put on some BB Cream. Not even foundation. This one from Rimmel has been my go-to BB Cream for years now. This is the Rimmel London 9-in-1 Skin Perfecting Super Makeup BB Cream in Matte.

Then I’ll conceal. I always put concealer under my eyes. Sometimes I put a little around my nose, on the high points of my cheeks and wherever I have blemishes. I love the Tarte Shape Tape (who doesn’t) and my drugstore favorite is the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser.

If I decide to set my face (i always set under my eyes), right now I’m reaching for the Maybelline Fit Me! Loose Finishing Powder. This stuff works amazingly well and doesn’t get cakey as easily as some other powders do.

Then I bronze and apply blush. I’m always using the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer in Light Bronzer, and I’m obsessed with the Physicians Formula Butter Blush in Plum Rose. I have been wearing these two exclusively for weeks now.

For brows I usually almost always use Anastasia products, but I’ve been semi-recently introduced to this brow pencil and I don’t hate it. This is the Loreal Brow Stylist Shape & Fill pencil. Its tip isn’t as precise as I usually like, but its easy to work with and goes on really well and stays all day.

Then I do eyeliner and mascara. I love the Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Eyeliner + Serum. Does the serum part work? No idea. But the liner works and it stays all day and is totally smudge proof. Its easy to use and you can do a lot of looks with it with ease. For mascara, I’m hooked on Loreal Voluminous Lash Paradise. Its incredible, simple as that.

Then I finish it all off with some setting spray. I use the Make It Last spray from Milani right now and I have no complaints.

There you have it! Simple, sweet and inexpensive.

What You Shouldn’t Miss at Disneyland Resort During Halloween

If you didn’t know already, let me fill you in real quick – I am obsessed with Disneyland, especially Disneyland during Halloween time. The season started on September 7th and goes until October 31st, so you still have time to go see Disneyland Resort during its very best time of year.

IMG_0959

We go a lot during the year, but we always make sure we go during Halloween Time for sure. Seriously, its the best. I wouldn’t lie to you. Because I’m getting antsy waiting for our trip to Disneyland coming up and its still just the beginning of the season, I wanted to share with you my five can’t miss list of things you have to do/see while you’re in Disneyland Resort for Halloween.

Mickey’s Halloween Party – Just so you know, Mickey’s Halloween Party is a separate ticket event. Meaning you have to buy another ticket for this party. Yes, its an added expense, but its worth every buck. When you attend Mickey’s Halloween Party you get to dress up in your Halloween Costume (all ages can do this! – but its not required, if thats not your cup of tea), and you can trick-or-treat around the park! Oh, and they do not skimp on the candy (but there are also some healthier options). There is also a special parade for Halloween which is…I don’t even know the appropriate words to describe this parade. Its phenomenal. I highly, highly recommend you watch it if you choose to go to the Party. There is also a special firework show! There are extra characters out and about in their adorable Halloween costumes, lots of villains, fun photo backdrops and ops all over.

Typically this party happens in Disneyland in the evening. Disneyland closes for everyone else and just people with tickets to this event are allowed in Disneyland. As for everyone else, they get to go hang out in California Adventure!

IMG_1271.jpg

Photo Ops – The photo ops aren’t just during Mickey’s Halloween Party. There are also so, so many cute holiday-themed spots to take your picture throughout both parks and Downtown Disney that aren’t special for the Halloween Party. My favorites are the giant pumpkin at the top of Main Street, all of Cars Land with their Haul-O-Ween overlay and the outside of Haunted Mansion, which is Haunted Mansion Holiday during September through December, which brings me to the next can’t miss thing…

Haunted Mansion Holiday – Through the Halloween and Christmas Seasons in Disneyland, Jack Skellington from Nightmare Before Christmas takes over Haunted Mansion, making it Haunted Mansion Holiday and its so much fun! The original Haunted Mansion is my very favorite attraction in Disneyland, but I’m ok with it not being its original spookiness for a few months because when Jack takes over, he does a great job! Its a perfect mix of Halloween and Christmas and its something that just can’t be missed.

All the Food – Meals, snacks and treats at Disneyland are undoubtably some of my favorite things about Disneyland Resort, and Disney really ups their game when it comes to holiday food. I’m contemplating doing a separate post all about the treats in Disneyland Resort during Halloween because they are phenomenal. They taste great and look magical.

IMG_0891.jpg

Cars Land/Haul-O-Ween – I still can’t get over how incredible the Cars Land overlay is. Haul-O-Ween in Radiator Screams is everything we never knew we needed. The attention to detail is ridiculous. You could spend hours in this land just oogling over all the decor. Lightning McQueen and some of his friends even come out to visit for pictures and are dressed up in their own Halloween costumes! Make sure you also check Radiator Screams out at night. The lighting is so cool. Lets face it, everything about Cars Land is cool at all times of the year, but especially September and October.

The Captains Top Disney Reads

It will likely come as no shock to you that we have a lot of Disney books in our home (but of course we never have enough and our collection is always growing). H and I read several books throughout our day and at night H loves when his dad sits and reads to him before bed. Today as I was trying to brainstorm what I could blog about, H approached me with our newest favorite Disney book to read and thats when the idea hit me. Today I’l show you H’s favorite Disney books (for the time being).

The Captain’s Top 7 Favorite Disney Reads

Disney in Details: This is basically a bunch of hidden gems around Disney World. Our family already knew about the majority of these, but its still a fun book to have around the house and H loves the pictures!
IMG_7657

My First Words: Its a whole bunch of images and some are Disney characters! Whats not to love?
IMG_7658

Small Disney Board Books: A few Christmases ago my aunt H this pack of small Disney board books. There are tons of them and I don’t know that H necessarily has a favorite, but he loves them. There are so many different characters and short little stories and books that talk about characters, shapes, etc. These are a big hit.
IMG_7659

Who’s Who: This one is probably our very favorite right now. Or mine at least. This book is the perfect tool for teaching your little one all the Disney characters – even some of the more obscure, less thought of characters. Its so much fun, there are little bios on each character and colored pictures. This book wasn’t released very long ago and H and I have already spent hours in these pages. I highly, highly recommend this book to all of you.IMG_7660

My First Colors: Ok, this one is probably H’s favorite. Its his newest Disney Baby book and its a fun one. The pages fold out which is definitely his favorite feature. Its been really nice right now too as we are working on identifying colors.IMG_7661

Hello, World!: All the It’s a Small World books are very loved in our home but this is the one we read the most. If you want to challenge yourself as a parent and try and figure out how to say ‘hello’ in a whole bunch of different languages – this ones for you!! Its a short read, but H is never disappointed by it – even though his mom surely slaughters the different languages featured inside.IMG_7662

Disney/Pixar Look and Find – Toy Story: He got book in a set of four. I don’t know if this one is his very favorite of the four but its the one we’ve looked at about 100 times already today. Look and Find is a little too advanced for him right now but he’s picking up on it more and more each time we read it and even if he isn’t in the mood to find the certain characters/things, he enjoys looking at the pages nonetheless. IMG_7663

July Beauty Talk

How long has it been since I’ve done one of these? I sort of forgot all about them, I guess. But in an attempt to keep up with my semi-frequent posting, I wanted to start my monthly Beauty Talk back up. I haven’t really discovered that much new and exciting lately unfortunately. I have definitely found a couple things that I’m hooked on – but nothing life changing. So if you have something in mind that I need to try please tell me about it. I’ve been in a bit of a beauty rut. I guess I’ve reached the point in my pregnancy where I’m just starting to feel like even when I’m dressed, have a face of make up and my hair done I still am just a little blah. I need to get my lash extensions back on. I swear those make all the difference in times like these. Anyway, lets get started.

JULY BEAUTY TALK

Tarte Shape Tape: Me and everyone else love this, right? I have heard like two bad reviews and a million good ones about this product. So naturally I had to get it. This pregnancy I am getting a lot of pigmentation under my eyes (chloasma – pregnancy mask) and this is the only concealer I can really count on to hide the color. Its thick, self-sets and is easy to work with. IMG_6910

Voluminous Lash Paradise by LOreal: Not only is the packaging really pretty, it makes your lashes look really pretty! I was so impressed with this stuff even by my first use! A lot of times I like mascara when its a little older, but I’ve loved this every time I’ve used it. Its lengthening, thickening and only takes a couple coats to get a pretty dramatic look! Its long lasting (i’ve even warn it in the pool a few times with no disastrous results) and the brush is fat and easy to use. And I think it was just $10? Totally recommend. IMG_6911
Blush Serum by Beautaniq Beauty: I hated this the first time I used it but my sister convinced me to give it a few more tries. This is basically a cream blush. A little goes a long way so its a fine line between a nice, soft pink and going full blown Barbie pink, but when applied just right, I really love it and it sticks to your face forever! IMG_6915

ColourPop Super Shock Shadow in Weenie: I tend to be more minimal with my makeup in Summer. So right now if I wear eyeshadow its something simple and usually use one color. My go-to lately has been Weenie. Its a shimmery copper/pink/brown and it really compliments my green eyes, stays well and I can apply it in a matter of seconds. (have any of you tried ColourPops new concealers? I’m looking forward to getting my hands on those to try out!) IMG_6917

Sonia Kashuk Brushes: I was wandering the aisles of Target and found this set of 10 brushes for way cheap so naturally I had to buy them. I actually assumed it’d be a purchase I later regretted because I haven’t always heard the best things about this brands brushes, but I guess I am in the minority because I have really loved them thus far! And how cute are they?? IMG_6914

Coconut Milk Cream to Foam Face Wash by Pacifica: This was another random purchase because I’m a sucker for pretty packaging. I haven’t used this cleanser long enough to tell you that it will solve all your skin problems, but I can tell you that it smells like heaven and leaves your face feeling squeaky clean and super soft. IMG_6912

Dr Teal’s Pure Epsom Salt with Milk and Honey: Pregnancy staple right here. I’m a bath-addict and baths get 100 times better with this stuff. I really do believe that it helps relax your aching body all while leaving your skin softer and more moisturized. This is a huge bag and its only $5! IMG_6909

Mickey Mouse Necklace: For Mothers Day my boys got me this necklace and I’m in love. You know I’m all about representing the Disney brand everywhere I go and this is another fun way to do so. IMG_6916

Disneyland T-Shirt: Gotta love a picture of an ever growing belly in a tight t-shirt, huh? On our last trip to Disneyland, Wild Man and I spotted this shirt and both LOVED it. We both got one and later my family got H one in red. Its the best and I love the vintage look to it. I’m really bummed that its not going to fit me much longer so I’m wearing it lots while I still can! (then i’ll just start wearing Wild Man’s…)  IMG_6913

Magical Monday: Top 10 Disney Quotes

Like as soon as I started this post I immediately started feeling anxiety because HOW am I supposed to pick just 10 of my favorite Disney quotes? Its impossible. So you’ll notice that I didn’t include the word ‘favorite’ in the post title. Instead these are ten Disney quotes that I love a whole lot.

1. “Adventure is Out There” (from Up)

  • Ok. I know for a fact that this is my #1 favorite Disney quote of all time. This quote was something Wild Man and I said to each other a lot while we were dating, this was the theme of our engagement and its our family motto. I love this quote.

2. “Around here we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” (Walt Disney)

  • This is my favorite quote by Walt. Its so inspiring and motivates me to keep on moving in a forward direction. Its one of those you read and immediately feel good. I have this quote hanging in H’s room – I want him to commit this to memory because its that good.

3. “A true hero isn’t measured by the size of his strength, but by the strength of his heart.” (Hercules)

  • I have never been a big, tough, brave, strong person. But I have always wanted to be some kind of hero but (especially when i was little) I always felt defeated that I wasn’t the strong, outspoken ‘hero’ type. This quote helped me realize I can be a hero through kindness, my acts and through my heart.

4. “No matter how your heart is grieving, if you keep on believing the dream that you wish will come true.” (Cinderella)

  • This is just inspiring. Keep on believing and have faith your dream will come true. Thanks, Cinderella.

5. “If your heart is in your dream, no request is too extreme.” (Pinnochio)

  • Much like the quote above, this is one of those that just makes me feel good in always dreaming and believing. Nothing is too crazy to reach for.

6. “I want adventure in the great wide somewhere.” (Beauty and the Beast)

  • I had to include a quote from Belle in this post because she’s my favorite princess and one of my favorite characters in the whole Disney universe. I love this one. Its been something I’ve said to myself a lot too, when I’m just wanting more – to be a little more adventurous and spontaneous. Also, everything Belle says is gold.

7. “I keep wishing it could be that way because my world would be a wonderland.” (Alice in Wonderland)

  • Alice is my favorite character and I love this movie so much. I love her imagination because I was always the girl (still am) who gets lost in my own thoughts and have created a little world of my own just like Alice.

8. “Ladies don’t start fights but they can finish them.” (The Aristocats)

  • Marie (the kitten who says this) was one of my childhood favorite characters and I still have a real soft spot for her. I love this quote. Its fiesty and tough. Don’t underestimate a girl.

9. “How do you spell love?” “You don’t spell it, you feel it.” (Winnie the Pooh)

  • Because love is so much more than a word and I am always and forever a hopeless romantic.

10. “To all who come to this happy place, welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams and the hard facts that have created America with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.” (Walt Disney – Disneyland dedication speech)

  • I get goosebumps when I read or hear this. This is the speech Walt Disney gave when he dedicated Disneyland. These are special words here, people!

Magical Monday: 50 Years of Pirates of the Caribbean

62b8b5fdd6483b6a33a1aeee5d72f90b

On March 18th Pirates of the Caribbean in Disneyland turned 50 years old! Pirates is easily one of my favorite attractions in any Disney park (i even like the Disneyland one more than Disney Worlds – do you agree?) I am kind of devastated we weren’t in the park for this momentous occasion but I had a few friends there and I lived vicariously through their instagram posts, tweets and snapchat stories that day. The weekend of the fiftieth anniversary was a big deal in Disneyland with special events, food, etc. So fun. Disney knows how to celebrate, am I right?

918fda076a1ac0b5b5cb4107ca456805

Like I said, Pirates is one of my very favorites. Its in my top three and occasionally is my #1 over all. It inspired the Pirates of the Caribbean movie series which are the greatest (yes even the sequels!) and I don’t care how cheesy it sounds, those movies changed my life and were a massive obsession of mine for years – ok, they still are. In turn, the movies then inspired some changes in the ride. I love that Jack Sparrow can now be spotted throughout the ride. Its a really magical touch.

Fun Fact: Did you know originally Pirates of the Caribbean was going to be a walk-through attraction? I’m so glad they changed their minds and now you board your boat and float through the incredible ride.

a1dfbbfd902fdbcf89f1af3d5fbd8d65

I love that Pirates is on the longer side as far as rides go. Its one of me and my families go to rides when we need to get off of our feet for a minute. Also, if you’re a nursing mom, this ride is an awesome place to nurse! I love the song. I love the music. I love the animatronics. I love the donkey, the pigs and the cat. I love the realistic sound of the fire. I love the hidden Mickey’s. I love the beginning when you’re floating through the bayou and its quiet, you can see Blue Bayou and it feels like you’ve really been transported somewhere else. I love the drops. I love the skeleton driving the crashed ship while lighting strikes and thunder booms. I love the skeleton pirate on top of the piles of gold and treasure. I love the treasure chest (replicated from POTC the movie). I love Jack Sparrow singing Yo-Ho at the end of the ride. I love the parrot you see as you wait in line and that you pass as you’re finishing your voyage. I love the atmosphere and that its kind of muggy and humid. I love the smell. I love the art. I love the Cast Members costumes. I love the scene with the three jailed men whistling for the dog with the key. I love everything about this ride.

Happy 50th Anniversary (a couple days ago) Pirates!

“Psst! Avast there! It be too late to alter course, mateys – and there be plunderin’ pirates lurkin’ in every cove, waitin’ to board. Sit closer together and keep your ruddy hands inboard – that be the best way to repel boarders. And mark well me words mateys: Dead men tell no tales!

Ye come seekin’ adventure and salty old paired, eh? Sure you come to the proper place. But keep a weather eye open, mates, and hold on tight – with both hands, if you please. There be squalls ahead! And Davy Jones waiting for them what don’t obey.”

Weekly Happy

This week? This week was so good.

One: On Saturday we went to the zoo and it was so much fun. H was a dream baby and loved looking at all the exhibits with different animals. The weather was so perfect and the animals were active. It was just the three of us and it couldn’t have been more wonderful. It was bonding, exciting and so much fun. I’m so glad Wild Man had the idea to get out of the house and do something fun!

IMG_4699.jpg

Two: We saw Beauty and the Beast on Thursday. It was as beautiful and magical as I hoped it would be. Emma Watson was an awesome Belle.

Three: I found out my favorite cracker (Cheez It Grooves in Sharp White Cheddar) come in a family size box. Laugh at me all you want on this one, I have no shame. These crackers are the best and have probably changed my life in some way.

Four: I ordered several new face masks from Ulta and got them in the mail a few days ago. I have only tried a few but so far LOVE them and am anxious to try the rest. Skin care is way too fun and way too addicting for me.

Five: My hair is growing! A year and four days ago I chopped my hair pretty short. It was a lob and the longest part barely hit my collarbone. I loved the cut, but once I decided I was going to grow it out, I felt like my hair was barely moving. The other day I found the picture of the day I cut it and compared it to now – its actually grown quite a bit in one year! Hooray for progress!
