Magical Monday: Disney Princesses

I love all things Disney, but one of my very, very favorite parts about it is its princesses. I have been obsessed since day one. The Little Mermaid caught my attention at a very young age and ever since then I am hooked, passionate and a huge fanatic. You get asked all the time who your favorite princess is but very seldom unless you’re conversing with a fellow Dis-nerd and have some time to kill, do you share your whole list of Disney princesses in order of how you like them. So that is what we’ll be doing today. For the purpose of this post I will be talking about Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, Rapunzel, Merida,  Anna and Moana. There are thirteen total and I will start with my least favorite and work up to my very favorite. (and for those of you who pay attention, no, anna is not officially a princess yet, but in my mind yes she is – and for the sake of this post, yes she is. also elsa is not a princess – she is a queen)

*I feel like I should include that this was SO hard for me and its totally possible that my order will change next week, or even tomorrow. My top three are solid, but after that it gets tricky. I genuinely love all the princesses and just because some are further down my list doesn’t mean that I don’t like them. In fact, I quite love my #12. Ok. I feel better now after saying that.

#13 Merida – Just because Merida is sitting in last place doesn’t at all mean that I don’t like her. In fact, I quite like Merida. She’s spunky, true to herself and gets stuff done. I guess the reason I put her here for the time being is based off of her story. If I were to sit down to watch a princess movie with the way I’m currently feeling while typing this post, I think Brave is the movie I’d be least likely to select. But remember, this list is subject to change.

#12 Mulan – Any girl who disguises herself as a man to ensure her fathers safety and actually trains and goes to war takes the cake in my book. Like…can you even imagine the bravery? She is awesome and I would definitely say is the toughest Disney princess.

#11 Snow White – I have multiple soft spots for Snow White. She is the first Disney princess. She’s the original. Plus her movie was released on December 21st, which happens to also be my birthday. Snow White is a classic and you just can’t forget her awesomely high voice and the way she just invites herself into a house and decides to clean it just because. And for some reason whenever I watch the movie I wish I was friends with the Seven Dwarfs, too.

#10 Cinderella – Cinderella taught me that the dream that I wish will come true and I’m not even being sarcastic here, thats a lesson I will never forget or undervalue. Cinderella’s story is a classic fairytale that just melts me. She is beautiful, she is so kind and is treated so poorly but never retaliates and in the end karma plays out and she ends up with Prince Charming. Also I’m really jealous of her ability to wear glass slippers and still dance the night away with what seems to be no pain.

#9 Jasmine – When I was little I would always pretend I was Jasmine and I’d pretend my grandparents dog was Rajah and I swear in my mind it was just perfect. I always loved Jasmine’s pretty long hair and the fact that she’s sassy and feisty and stands up for what she believes in. I admire that in a lot of the Disney princesses, probably because I myself wish I could do that more.

#8 Pocahontas – This movie actually makes me bawl (the whole If I Never Knew You part and then the end when they say goodbye….UGH) so I have to be in the right mood to watch it. But lets talk about Pocahontas. She is amazing. I remember when I was younger I had her fake tattoo from a Halloween costume and I’d attach it to my arm and then try my best to do her crouch/run – and of course I always had to make sure my hair was down so it would hopefully move as amazing as hers did. Pocahontas is brave and what makes her even more incredible is that hers is a real story! What she did took serious guts and I am really impressed by that. I also love how stoic and mature she is. There is something so calming and captivating about her.

#7 Anna – Anna has the best attitude and for some reason the scene in Frozen when they show her waking up with drool dripping from her mouth and crazy bedhead warms my heart and makes me happy to know that not all Disney princesses wake up looking like a million bucks. I love how friendly Anna is and how she believes the best in everyone and is true to her quirky self. Plus she’s adorable.

#6 Tiana – If there were ever a Disney princess who was a shining example of hard work, dedication, perseverance and starting from the bottom and working her way to the top, Tiana is that princess. No joke whenever I watch Princess and the Frog I feel so motivated and girl power and pumped up.

#5 Moana – Ok, I know we haven’t known Moana long, and technically she hasn’t been introduced as a Disney princess yet, but I’m absolutely putting her on this list because I love and adore Moana. I love that she is built more realistically. I love that she listens to her heart. I love that she has the voice of an island angel. I love that she is best friends with a small pig. I love that she rocks a top-knot like no one else can. I love that her movie makes me happy. I love all things about her.

#4 Aurora – Just so we’re clear, I like her blue dress more than her pink dress. Which team are you on? Once Upon a Dream is one of my very favorite Disney songs – thanks for that, Aurora. She is so graceful and beautiful and has hair straight from heaven. The dress she wears when she lives in the woods with the fairies is a dress I’d happily wear every single day and call me old fashioned but I love the whole damsel in distress, prince braving dragons and evil henchmen to save her, story. Its another perfect classic.

#3 Rapunzel – How can you not love Rapunzel? I remember the first time I saw Tangled my jaw fell to the floor in awe. SUCH a good movie. The music is the best, the voices they used for their characters are perfect picks and the story is phenomenal. I laughed, I cried, I was and still am 100% obsessed. I love how Rapunzel is a go-getter, she’s brave, she’s honest, she is kind and she isn’t afraid to voice how she’s feeling. Its also pretty impressive that she can pull off 70 feet of blonde hair and also a short brown bob – not everyone can do that, you know.

#2 Ariel – The Little Mermaid is the first princess I ever became obsessed with. My parents will tell many stories about me being die-hard for ‘Mernaid.’ She is a free spirit and yeah, she’s a little disobedient and gets herself into trouble and many dangerous situations but she’s a natural adventurer and I respect her for that. She is young and carefree and learns a lot of lessons along the way and I’m not even kidding I feel like I learned those lessons along side her and thats partly why I grew up to be such a goody-goody. Part of Your World is a song that I will never tire of, too.

#1 Belle – Belle will forever and always be my number one. When I was little I think she was my favorite because of how incredibly pretty she is, and because we both had brown hair. But now that I really know her, its so much more than just her looks. She is so kind, she’s determined and hard working, she is loyal, she knows there is more to a person than how they look or the rumors you’ve heard about them, she is brave, she is intelligent, she stands up for what she knows is right and so much more. I want her to be my daughters (heck, my sons too) role model because she is everything a person should strive to be. Oh Belle, I love you.

Magical Monday: Guilty Pleasures

Have you ever noticed when you talk to people about Disney Parks there are always a few things they say they love but they seem maybe slightly embarrassed about? This kind of makes me laugh because I guess when I’m in a Disney Park I decide to fully embrace being a complete Dis-nerd and geeking out and not caring at all what people think about my outfit, my actions, my purchases, etc. As I’ve thought more about this though I’ve decided I kind of have these things too, the only difference is I have named these my guilty pleasures of Disney. These are the things I ‘secretly’ love to do/see/buy/experience while in the park but don’t necessarily advertise. Do you get me? I thought this would be kind of a fun topic to talk about on todays Magical Monday. So these are my guilty pleasures but I am very, very curious what yours are!

  • People Watching: Wild Man introduced me to the love of people watching. My favorite places to park myself are near Haunted Mansion or around the Hub at the end of Main Street and just sit and watch. People are entertaining. I love seeing their outfits, hearing bits of their conversations, looking at what merchandise their kids are holding and all that. Its quality entertainment.
  • Eating A LOT: Just ask my family, I am constantly suggesting we eat again when we are in the park. I don’t know if I burn calories quick (no probs not) or if I’m just that much of a foodie, but I want all the Disney food. I have my favorites – corn dogs at Stage Door Cafe, Dole Whips from Tiki Room, caesar salad at Pizza Port, Chili Cone Queso’s from Cozy Cone.
  • Parades: Parades are the bomb. Its a way to sit and just let your brain relax from forward planning your day and watch as amazing floats and fun characters pass by.
  • Pins: My obsession has slightly (but only slightly) dwindled the last few years but I’ve got a pin collection that I am proud of! I used to spend all of my Disney money on pins and I tried to make sure each pin I bought meant something to me. I love that because now when I look at them, most of them have a memory, a story or remind me of something that was going on at the time I bought it.
  • Meeting Princesses: I love meeting all of the characters, but there must be enough ‘little girl’ in me that I still freak out when I meet a princess. They’re so magical and graceful and they literally give me goosebumps. My family sometimes likes to tease me about a trip a couple years ago where I met Snow White and she was PERFECT. I couldn’t even stand how much I adored her.
  • Window Shopping: Sometimes I just can’t buy all the things (darn) but its really fun to daydream and hold everything.
  • Ride the Train: You know the train that circles the park? I love it. Currently its not actually running (while they build Star Wars Land) but when it is I adore riding in it. Again, its a great way to sit and relax, people watch, grab a snack, etc. There are some neat things to see and it holds a soft spot for me because of Walt Disney’s great love of trains.

So now that we have talked about a few of mine, what are yours?! I’m curious.

Our Messy (Disney) Christmas Tree

I’ve never been one to want the fancy Christmas tree with the perfectly placed ribbons, the fancy ornaments, the odds and ends somehow placed seamlessly throughout the tree and everything coordinating. Thats not how I grew up so its never how I intended my Christmas trees to be once I got married. Lucky for me, Wild Man quickly embraced my crazy love of Disney and agreed when I told him I wanted our Christmas tree to be just Disney. I have dozens of Disney ornaments from my whole life and every year on Christmas Eve a Christmas Elf brings us a few more Disney ornaments, so even over our four years of marriage we have acquired a few dozen more Disney ornaments. Plus sometimes you just see a cute Disney ornament while in Disneyland or Disney World or the Disney Store and you can’t turn it down, you know? Basically what I’m saying is we have a lot of these ornaments and thats our trees theme.

Our tree always looks a little ‘messy’ but I feel like since having one year old this Christmas and having to hang most of the ornaments higher and leaving the non-fragile ones lower so H can pull them off (and apparently shove them under the couch because thats where I find lots of them) and play with them it looks a little more messy. Also not all of our ornaments are hung this year because it looks like we need a bigger tree – not enough room!

As we speak, this is what our Christmas Tree currently looks like. (ps i’ve only wrapped 50% of my gifts but considering I’ve been known to do all of my wrapping on Christmas Eve before, I’m calling this great progress). I know its not anything special and maybe to some is a little underwhelming, but I LOVE it. Its a tree chock full of Disney and I’d say that sums up our family pretty darn well. Oh, and yes we do have Disney snowflakes hanging from our ceiling.

Sooooo this post was supposed to be showcasing some of my favorite ornaments… Lets get on to that now, shall we?

This is our tree topper from the Disney Store. They always have cute little Mickey and Minnie ones during the holidays. We got this one the year we got married and I really love it. It lights up, too – H’s favorite.

I can’t remember if this is a Disney Store or Disney Parks ornament, but its one of my favorite on my whole tree. It plays the Steamboat Willie song and Mickey rocks back and forth, pulling the string connected to the horn (the horn makes no noise). I’ve always loved this one and H is particularly fond of it. He’ll sit and stare at it for quite some time, smiling and pointing.

Alice in Wonderland is one of my very favorite Disney movies. I’ve always had a soft spot for her so I actually have several Alice ornaments. This is a Disney Store one, too.

Many of our ornaments are princesses. Ariel and Belle are my two favorite so they’re who I have the most of. I have got princess ornaments from the park, from the Disney Store, from Etsy… Its hard for me to pass up a princess ornament.

The rest of these ornaments were bought from either Disneyland or Disney World and are some of my very favorites on the tree.

I have always loved this one from Cars Land in Disneyland – I mean, how cute is it?

My mom got me this one (from Disney World, I think?) and she gave Wild Man a Mickey one. I don’t know why I love this so much but I just do. Its so festive and adorable.

If you’re into Disney then you know how right now there are these Starbucks mugs, etc that have Disney designs on them that are very in right now. I love them! This was another gift from my mom and I think its so cute and so unique.

We’ll end this post with an ornament that both makes me happy and sad. The ornament we got on our latest trip to Disneyland from Tower of Terror. It closes down in January and I’m going to super miss it. So glad we have this ornament to remember it!

Holiday Smells

Once November 1st hits (if not sooner) I bust out the holiday scented candles, plug-ins, air fresheners and I feel no shame for this. I have a candle lit in my house every day and I am all about a yummy scent in your home – it just makes it feel cozier and makes me feel more put together and mature. I have been so into my holiday scented candles this season (some are not marketed as holiday, but to me they just scream holiday baking, holiday goodness, etc) that I figured since I’m such a candle junkie it just made sense for me to do a post about my favorites.

Starting with my very favorite candle ever, from Anthology Candles, this is Main Street Bakery. These are Disney-themed candles (so obvs I’m all over them and have like 90% of their candles) and this one smells like the bakery and there is nothing better. It smells like a bakery, has a hint of coffee and I can’t tell you how many times I have wished it was an edible candle because its that good.

My mom bought this for me on Black Friday and I’ve only used it once but holy cow! This is the signature Christmas candle you need in your home. Maybe I’ll light this one Christmas morning – its bound to up the Christmas cheer by 100%. It is called, Celebrate and its from Bath and Body Works.

Look, more Anthology! This is called A Spoonful of Sugar and its lovely. It has a really delicate vanilla scent. This one isn’t overpowering and its not the kind of candle that hits you in the face with its scent so its nice when you just need a little hint of something.

Walter & Rosie Candle Co. is another Disney inspired candle company and I have a few of their candles, as well. While Anthology is still my favorite brand, I’m falling fast for these guys. My current favorite from them is The Grand Gingerbread House candle that smells like gingerbread (obviously) and it is heaven in a candle.

This is one of my newer candles from Anthology Candles called, The Matterhorn. When I first smelled it I was pretty sure I’d hate it. Its a more masculine smelling candle and reminded me of my husbands deodorant, but I still gave it a shot and I’m actually really into it.

These two Bath and Body Works candles are from last year but are still going strong this year. The brown one is called Pumpkin Pecan Waffles and the pink one is called Cranberry Woods. They’re both really strong and are stereotypical holiday scents and they are bomb.

Churros from Anthology Candles. Your house will smell like a Disneyland churro,  do I need to say anything else?

And lastly, just in case you aren’t a candle lover (what?! how?!) then here is another festive, yummy option. Glade’s air fresheners are awesome. I feel like they work better in smaller rooms, but they last a while and put off a great scent. My current favorite holiday scent from them is Happy Glow which smells like apple cinnamon.

I hope your holidays smell phenomenal.

Our Favorite Books

Christmas is coming and I feel like everyone is looking for that perfect gift for the different people in their lives. Well I’m here to talk about the perfect gift for you little ones. My little guy LOVES books. We read them in the morning, the afternoon and at night right before bed. Its not uncommon to find H sitting in a corner somewhere with a book or two, turning pages, ‘reading’ and pointing at the pictures. Something really cute about him getting a little older is that he’s starting to get some books that he gravitates towards and are definitely his favorites. We have put in a good word this year and are really hoping that Santa will bring H a few new books that we can add to our collection. But for now with what we have – these are our favorite books and we highly recommend them.

SOME BUGS: I think this is H’s current #1 favorite book. When he’s going through his boxes of books this is the one he grabs first. I guess I should have known that a one-year old boy would love the book about bugs. The pictures are so cute and the wording is clever, so I don’t mind reading it 1,000x a day. IMG_2364.jpg

YOU ARE SPECIAL: I cry every time I read this book. Its a sweet story about learning that you’re special just the way you are and its ok to be yourself and there is no need to compare yourself to others. Every little one needs this book and this message in their life. IMG_2358.jpg

BABY TOUCH AND FEEL BOOKS: H loves any book that has things to touch and feel. It pretty much ups the books cool factor by 100 in his opinion. IMG_2357.jpg

HEDGEHUGS: H got this for Valentine’s Day and I’ve been obsessed ever since. If you ever have wondered why you have socks that go missing I suggest you get this book and you’ll find out why. IMG_2359.jpg

IF ANIMALS KISSED GOODNIGHT: This is one of my favorite bedtime books. A book about parents loving/kissing their babies goodnight. Sweet and simple and cute.  IMG_2360.jpg

IT’S A SMALL WORLD BOOKS: We have all the Small World books and they are so fun. Our favorites are Hello, World and Color Our World. Some have flaps to open or pull, some have touch and feel, one has a mirror. They’re all different and all cute.img_2361

DR SEUSS BOOKS: At one of my baby showers before H was born I got a few big packs of Dr. Seuss books. These books are so fun and take me back to my childhood. A lot of them are pretty weird and get you tongue-tied but they are entertaining for sure. img_2362

HAPPY HIPPO ANGRY DUCK: We are a big fan of all the Sandra Boynton childrens books but this is our favorite. It has a cute message and I really love the pictures. This is one that H will often look at on his own too. img_2363

OLAF’S NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS: To end this post I figured we’d end with a Christmas book. This is pretty much the Night Before Christmas but with Olaf’s take. Its cute and if you’re one of those families that really like reading Christmas books in December (or year round, I don’t judge) than this is a perfect option.  img_2365

November Beauty Talk

I don’t think I tried any new beauty products in the month of November. It was mostly just rediscovering products I already owned and gave another shot. I’m hoping December brings a lot more make up/skin care/hair product/jewelry/fashion favorites.

LANOLIN: Well, not to get too descriptive, but I’ve been experiencing some major boob pain. You’d think after nursing a whole year I wouldn’t be having fun stuff like this pop up suddenly but that just goes to show you can never be too certain about anything. This Lanolin has been a lifesaver and it goes with me everywhere.

LIPSENSE – GINGERBREAD: This color is so pretty! Its a light brown with lots of shimmer. Its been so fun to pair with my fall outfits.

EARRINGS: You cannot go wrong with Mickey Mouse earrings. These cute, textured earrings are my latest staple. I wear them pretty much every day. They are simple and add a little Disney magic to my day.

SOAP & GLORY – HEEL GENIUS: I’ve already sung Soap & Glory praises on my blog so its no surprise that I’m here loving it again. This is their Heel Genius foot cream and its wonderful. The smell is actually not my favorite, but it works so well. I usually will lather my feet in this before bed, put on a pair of socks and go to sleep (and pray that i can stay asleep with socks on) and the next morning my feet almost feel like H’s bottom.

LUSH – THE KISS LIP SCRUB: With the weather getting colder my lips can use all the exfoliating they can get. I love this sugar scrub. It smells great, tastes great (yes you can eat it/lick it off) and is really cute! It basically looks like pink sparkles with little hearts thrown in.

BLENDING BRUSHES: The pink blush is from Luxie and the black brush is from Bean Gachis Paris. I don’t remember where or when I got these but I’ve just recently started using them again and they’re my two most used shadow brushes. They blend so well, are gentle on your eyelids and clean really well.

L’OREAL – KERASTASE SERUM: I used to use this all the time and I don’t know why I ever stopped. You apply this to damp or dry hair and work it into your hair and it leaves your hair so soft, healthy and shiny. I swear it helps with the thickness too (but don’t quote me on that). There is something so luxurious about this product and I highly recommend giving it a try.

L’OREAL – MAGIC LUMI LIGHT INFUSING PRIMER: This one isn’t a favorite but its not so bad that its on an unfavorite list either. I like this, but I’m coming to accept that maybe I just don’t like the dewey look on my face all the time – which this primer definitely gives. So when I use it I make sure to set my face with a powder so its not so luminous looking. I also like mixing this with another primer which seems to tone down the shine. By itself though, I’m not the hugest fan.

October Beauty Talk

R+Co – Death Valley Dry Shampoo: I was randomly given this product and I never turn down dry shampoo because there is never a bad time to use this stuff. I’ve been given the advice to use dry shampoo in bangs to help them keep their place so this is what I’ve been using in them for the last two weeks and I really like this stuff! The main reason I like it so much is that it dries with no color. I hate when you think you’ve rubbed in all your dry shampoo only to find at the end of the day you look like your roots are grey – but thats not even an issue with this stuff. The scent is barely there and thats something I really enjoy too. There is also something about the packaging that just makes me excited to use it.

Kokie – Nail Polish in Heavenly: Do you like my awesome chipped manicure? I’m classy, what can I say? Its not a Fall color at all, but its a color I’m drawn to and I love it. Also the elephant on the bottle and the lid is really great.

NYX – Photo-Loving Primer: I love when you find cheap products that work like expensive ones. Also, have I already talked about this because I swear I have. I love this stuff. It has a heavy silicone feel which I love in a primer, but I know that isn’t everyones favorite. But my make up sticks to this like glue and my face stays on all day when I wear this. Way to go NYX for making something that works awesome.

(Malin+Goetz) – Grapefruit Face Cleanser: This cleanser is bomb. My face feels so clean and radiant after I use this and the way it feels on your skin is a dream. It smells good, it makes your face look and feel good and there is literally nothing wrong with this stuff.

Pure Brazilian Miracle – Leave-in Conditioner: I have no idea where this came from, it just showed up in my life and its a miracle. You spray several pumps of this into your damp hair and brush it in and it makes your hair feel so soft and silky and like you’ve put the time and energy into it that you probably should but don’t. The word ‘miracle’ is in the name of this for a reason. And the smell is divine.

Laura Geller -Highlight in Peach Glow: I feel like Gilded Honey highlight form Laura Geller gets a lot of love. I talked my mom into buying that and every time she wears it I love it. I decided to get Peach Glow because it seemed to match my skin better. I’ve been using this a while now and I really like it. Its a subtle glow for sure, but sometimes subtle is nice. My only complaint is that this transfers incredibly easily which means that H and Wild Man usually wear a little highlight during the day when I wear this as well. Oops!

Burt’s Bees – Coconut & Pear Moisturizing Lip Balm: Burt’s Bees chapstick is my favorite chapstick and the scent of this one is what makes it my very favorite. I don’t feel like there is anything else to elaborate on here except that it feels great, smells great and makes me happy.
