Fall is in the Air…and the House

I’m basic, I know. But Fall is my favorite. Everything about it is good, especially the decor. I love Christmas decorations and summery vibes throughout the home, but I’m really truly just obsessed with Fall decor. I love that its just fall-themed in September, Halloween themed in October and then hints of Thanksgiving come out in the decor in November. Its (f)all good.

My decorating style has changed quite a bit over the years I’ve realized. This year I feel like I’ve found my groove though and know how I want to and like to decorate currently, so this year and last year I’ve got several new pieces to add to my collection or replace and I’m just so happy with it.

HAPPY FALL!

Fall is HERE

I finally decorated for Fall! The fact I didn’t do it on the very first day of September is just atrocious to me. But fear not, the decor is up now and all is well in the world. This is wonderful.

I can specifically recall every winter, putting my fall things away and aching for the day that I can cover my home in pumpkins again. So now that it’s back…oh the joy.

Over time I think my style is slowly changing. Our new home has really opened up a new part of me. Now that we are in (what we both hope and pray is) our forever home, I feel like I can really start figuring out what I love and what I want in the home I’ll raise my children in.

Not that anyone is coming to me with decor words of advice, but I just want to say this: When decorating your home, DO WHAT YOU LIKE. Don’t worry about if it’s “in” or not. If it’s colorful when the rest of the world seems to only decorate with muted colors, rock it. If you want everything white and people think that’s weird, ignore them. Make YOUR space YOURS!!

Coffee Filter Wreath + Fall Ribbons

I made this coffee filter wreath a while ago (and its truly one of my favorite DIY things I own), but I’ve just recently decided to start making my own ribbon sets to go with it. Making a ribbon set is not hard. Its also therapeutic and, if you’re a crafter/DIY-er, pretty dang exciting. So I’m all about this lifestyle change.

I started my ribbon-ing with a nice, general Fall set. My intention is to have this up September through November.. But lets be real. I may have to make a more Halloween-centered and Thanksgiving-centered one.

This set turned out great if you ask me. I’m pretty obsessed with it. I also have tons of ribbon left over, so if you’d like a set yourself, let me know!!

I’m selling the ribbon sets for $15

and if you want your own coffee filter wreath, I can make you one of those too, for $50!

You’ll love it. Promise.

Mickey’s Halloween Party 2018

On October 19th it was finally our time to get down to Mickey’s Halloween Party this year. I plan to do a post at some point about the whole trip, but before Halloween happens then passes us by, I wanted to make sure I got a post up about our spooky, fun evening celebrating Halloween in Disneyland!

Lets start with costumes. For Halloween this year, we dressed up as some of the characters from Ratatouille. I was Colette, Wild Man was Linguini, H was Remy and E was Emile. If you ask me, it turned out great! It always feels good when you walk the park and get countless comments of admiration from people. (oh also, H had just woken up – very unhappily – from a nap when a lot of these pictures were taken)

My mom and dad dressed up as Steam Boat Willie and Black and White Minnie. One of my sisters was Kuzco from Emperors New Groove and the other was Bo Peep from Toy Story (we found Woody and he loved her).

The Cadaver Dans (regularly the Dapper Dans) perform out on Rivers of America during Mickey’s Halloween Party and its always one of my highlights of the party.

The decorations and spooky effects, as usual were incredible. There is something extra magical about the park during the halloween party. Its amazing what Disney can do to the park. Ugh, I love it.

The Trick-or-Treating was fun, but H got tired of it kind of fast so we didn’t hit all the different spots (ok by me) and instead we got in a bunch more rides! We still ended up with tons of candy too, so it was a win-win.

IMG_9821IMG_4610IMG_4605

Then there was the parade and firework show, also special to Mickey’s Halloween Party. The parade is my very favorite. The fireworks are also incredible. Its totally worth it to sit around for a while to claim a good spot for both of these events because you’re not going to see them anywhere else but during this party!

It was a frightfully fun evening. I’m so glad we have this tradition of going to Disneyland Resort during Halloween time. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it a million times more, the best time to go to Disneyland Resort is during Halloween.

The Halloween Time @ DLR Pump Up Post

Just in case you needed it, here is a post to get you pumped up for Halloween Time starting at Disneyland Resort! (disclaimer: a good chunk of these pictures are from Cars Land because I still can’t get over how awesome the overlay is there)

Halloween Season officially begins in Disneyland Resort today, September 7th, though decor, etc has been popping up for the last couple weeks. How excited are you? On a scale from 1-10, I’m definitely at a solid 100. I’ve said it a million times and I’ll say it again, Halloween Time at Disneyland Resort is the very best time to go to that magical park. I promise.

I’ve gathered several of my favorite Halloween Disneyland pictures for this post to get you all excited for your upcoming trip, or give you some motivation to get there. Or, if you can’t make it, then hopefully this can help fill that Disney void for you!

*Most of these are taken by my dad – he does such a good job.

Disneyland – October 2017

*WARNING: Also no surprise, this is a picture overload post. It was impossible for me to choose only a couple pictures I wanted on this post.

I really, really hoped that we could squeeze in a Disneyland trip before baby was born. Initially I was thinking September would be ideal but as it turned out, October was the only thing we could really make work. I knew it would be a little risky because in October I hit 8 months pregnant, but its gonna take a lot more than that to keep me and my family away from a Disney Park. We spent five days there and I can safely say that all five days were pure magic and happiness. They were also full of exhaustion and very swollen feet, ankles and legs – but thats besides the point.

We had Mickey’s Halloween Party the first day and it was great. Although can I say something slightly negative? I don’t feel like Disneyland’s candy was as good this year as it usually is.. If you ask Wild Man about this he will be very vocal about the lack of Butterfingers in our trick-or-treat bags. Besides that, no complaints. Disney knows how to do a Halloween Party. One of H’s current favorite movies is Monsters Inc and Monsters University so we decided that would be our costume theme this year. Wild Man was Sulley, H was Mike and I was Boo – which also meant I got to wear pajamas to Disneyland! What more could a giant pregnant lady ask for? Usually we make our Halloween costumes. I love handmade costumes because they are so personal and they are one of a kind. But this year we were just a little too busy and a little too sick so we reluctantly purchased these costumes (mine was pieces I found from Amazon). I was bummed about it at first, but they really didn’t turn out too bad. Wild Man’s costume cracks me up and H felt like the star of the show in his – so it was a success.

My cute sisters dressed up too. One was Jane Goodall and the other was Mia Thermopolis (Princess Diaries) and HOW CUTE ARE THEY?

There were four huge highlights of this trip for me.

  1. H’s love of Carousels. King Arthurs Carousel was an instant hit. He loved riding his “howa,” (horse) and you could not wipe the giant smile off his sweet little face. He would laugh and laugh and squeal with excitement and his reaction was contagious, as he made everyone else around him laugh and smile. It was so happy. Pure. Magic. There was nothing more exciting to him and it was so special to me. I love my happy, Disney boy.
  2. The second highlight was watching the Disney Junior Live show in California Adventure. Just Wild Man and I took him to this. Its a show where you sit on the floor and watch as Disney characters dance on stage and put on a little show. Things fall from the ceiling, there are fun songs and lots of dancing. H was in heaven. It was so special. Then when Mickey and Minnie came out on stage at the end, H squealed, jumped and covered his mouth with pure excitement and I couldn’t help myself from the flood of tears that came over me. There is nothing like seeing Disney magic through your little ones eyes.
  3. Third, our last day in Disneyland Wild Man and I were doing some shopping and a girl that was probably in her early twenties approached us with a Mickey Mouse balloon that lit up and asked if H wanted it. She had apparently bought it but then decided she didn’t want it. Another very magical moment. Every time we passed the Cast Members who would hold the large bunch of balloons H would excitedly point at them and reach for them. Maybe I am a lame mom but I never wanted to get him one because they are pretty pricy and I’d rather spend money on something that won’t deflate after a while, you know? So this was kind of a once in a lifetime opportunity for H haha. The way his little face lit up when she handed the balloon to him was so special. He hugged the balloon and was so proud of his new souvenir.
  4. The last highlight is the biggest highlight and the most magical, special thing that happened and I have a hard time believing that anything could top this. I am tearing up just preparing to type this. Ok. One of our days in California Adventure we were in Cars Land and our group went on Radiator Springs Racers. H and I couldn’t join in on that ride so we decided to just wander the streets of Cars Land. We went into a small shop to look around before being in the store for a full 30 seconds, a tiny, frail, little old man approached me and asked, “could I buy a gift for your son?” Before I could answer him he kept on speaking and told me that he was never blessed with grandchildren but he loves kids. He comes to Disneyland once a week and every time he does he adopts an honorary grandchild and buys them a gift to remember their vacation to Disneyland and also him – Grandpa Perry. He told me that he and his wife used to live about an hour away and would visit the park as often as they could. She died 14 years ago and when that happened he moved to Anaheim so he could be in Disneyland, his happy place, more often and its been that long that he’s come once a week and made these magical moments for his honorary grandchildren. How could you not hear this sweet old mans story and not sob? It was impossible for me and I don’t think it was just pregnancy hormones, either. Together, he and H chose a pair of Cars Mickey Mouse ears and a Cars pinwheel with candy inside of it. I thanked him a million times. He gave me his email address so I could email him pictures of H in the ears, then he kissed H’s head and went on his way. I will never forget Grandpa Perry and I am so grateful that H gets to be one of his many honorary grandchildren.

I ate an absurd amount of treats on this trip. But thats what you’re supposed to do in Disneyland so I have absolutely no shame.

IMG_0510IMG_0512IMG_0538IMG_0592IMG_0429

Because I was 35 weeks pregnant while on this trip, we decided to stay on the side of safety and have me use a wheelchair. It was kind of embarrassing, but it also saved me. My cute sisters were my chauffeurs most of the time and they are troopers!

7583882320_PY1A3783

Meeting characters was different this trip. In our past several trips to Disneyland H is all over the characters and very excited by them. This time he was much more timid and shy. He was still totally excited, but also needed to have a good grip on me the whole time while meeting them and wasn’t too keen on giving the usual big hugs that he has given them in the past. I thought it was so cute.

The picture below is one of my very favorites. H has this new thing where he roars at everything. A ton of our pictures from this trip include H roaring. My dad took the picture below and was standing under a monster decoration in Cars Land and H could not stop roaring at it and my dad. It cracked me up and the picture turn out so good!

IMG_0958IMG_1260IMG_1364IMG_5988

It was such a fun, magical trip. I know this post is a little spacey and all over. But I have some plans of doing more specific Disney posts in the future (maybe the far future because hopefully baby comes soon!!) but for now, here is my picture dump. Right now we are focused on finishing the last couple things up before little brother makes his arrival, but after those first few weeks of newborn heaven you better believe I’ll be chomping at the bit to get back to our happy place with our new family of four!

Summer 2017 in Review

IMG_7513.jpg

Fall is finally officially here and I couldn’t be more overjoyed. But I have to admit, as I look back at Summer I have to confess it was a really great season with some really great moments and memories. We spent a lot of time swimming in my parents pool, spending time in the mountains, playing in our yard with our new puppy and going on evening walks together as a family – something that has become something H eagerly looks forward to daily.

It was both busy and relaxing with some big, fun trips and a lot of days spent in the comfort of our cozy home. It was chaotic at times and it was blissful at times. I discovered – or at least came to terms with – the fact that I think I’m battling some crappy anxiety again and the closer I get to delivery the worse it gets. Is pre-partum anxiety a thing?

H grew up a ton. He’s learned a lot more words, is able to correctly identify lots of various things, is so observant, curious and a little baby genius. Our baby has grown healthily and what seems like really quickly. I feel like our family has grown a lot. We have somehow got even closer to one another.

We have been killing our daily prayer and scripture study, we have turned a new page and have a newfound determination to make church really count and make a conscious effort to stay all three hours (it definitely helps that H is in nursery now). Its just been a great couple months, even when it was so hot outside I wanted to cry and hideaway in our freezing basement.

IMG_7556.jpg

But you better believe I’m so dang ready for Fall and all the celebrations, big events, holidays and traditions it brings. As I’m typing this I am wearing slippers and a hoodie! Do you even understand how excited this makes me? Fall is the best – don’t even try to fight me on this.

Summer, you were a good one. Thanks for all the memories.

My Favorite Season EVER

Is there anything better than Fall? The clothes, the smells, the colors, the food, the traditions. I look forward to this season all year long. Winter, Spring and Summer are great and all that – but in my book, nothing can beat Fall.

Today is the first day of Fall and I’ve created a little bucket list for this season to ensure that it is that great of a season.

My Fall Bucket List

  • Have a super cute baby boy
  • Eat a shameful amount of apple pie without feeling any shame at all
  • Bust out all those Fall maternity clothes I’ve so eagerly been looking forward to wearing
  • Wool socks. Every day.
  • Drink at least one cup of hot chocolate a day
  • Teach H the joy of jumping in a pile of raked up leaves
  • Take family pictures
  • Take maternity pictures a few weeks before baby is due to arrive
  • Start Christmas shopping
  • Find a bunch of Fall crafts on Pinterest to recreate
  • Light my Fall scented candles
  • Break out the Christmas Music because its totally ok to listen to Christmas music before Thanksgiving
  • Decorate for Fall in general, then Halloween, then Thanksgiving and the day after Thanksgiving – bust out Christmas decor
  • Throw our annual Halloween Pool Party – mostly Wild Man’s thing
  • Obviously eat a ton of candy around Halloween
  • Give Candy Corn another shot – maybe it’ll taste better this year
  • Go on walks and crunch old leaves under our feet as a family (yes – this is something i genuinely look forward to)
  • Watch General Conference while relaxing in my families amazing condo up north
  • Buy a little rake so H can help in the yard
  • Find a beanie that doesn’t look ridiculous on my big head

Game Day

Today is game day, so I suppose I should start this post with saying: GO BYU! Its a big game today, too. Even I, a person who couldn’t possibly be less into sports, knows that. BYU vs. Utah. Its the big rivalry game. If I avoid pretty much all social media today and the next couple days, you can blame this football game. I HATE all the smack talk that goes on during and after this game. Like, I really don’t care – if BYU wins or if BYU loses my life will continue on the same and I will be fine. I know lots of people in my family don’t have this mindset, but hey, we can’t all be the same!

My favorite part of game day is the outfits. I think its fun to coordinate as a family in our BYU apparel. A couple weeks ago Wild Man and I went to the opening game with my parents (H stayed home with my sisters) and I thought we were such a cute little dressed-in-BYU family. Aren’t we?

IMG_7400.jpg

So go BYU! And just a friendly reminder to be nice to people – even those who don’t like the same sports team as you.

Ode to September

d31a883cd43c56b77563a8d325cd196a

I have waited all year long for September. My favorite time of year are the last few months of the year: September, October, November and December. The air starts to get cooler, the clothes get cozier, the family get-togethers are more frequent and consist of lots of delicious food, Disney Parks get even more magical, smells get yummier and my spirits get a lot higher (oh and lets not forget that highly anticipated baby thats going to get here in November!)

To be honest, I don’t really have a lot of plans for this month. I think nesting is starting to hit me so I’m sure I’ll do a bunch of cleaning, organizing and sorting through H’s old baby clothes. I want to bake more often. I want to blog more frequently. I want to take advantage of the last several weeks of my parents pool being open. I just want it to be a happy, relaxing but still productive month. I also want to start feeling the temperature drop. I love my Fall clothes the most – and I’m really sick of my Summer maternity clothes – I’m ready to break out the Fall clothes that will fit around my bump.

I know that sooner than later the Fall/Winter crafting bug is going to get me, too. There is something about September on that makes me want to drink a cup of hot chocolate while working on something to decorate my house with. Ugh. I’m so ready for this. Too bad that as I’m typing this its currently 80 something degrees outside.

So glad you’re finally here, September. All the heart-eyed emojis for you.
